About Us

Tony and Mick (Mary) Moriva, owners of The Checkerboard, reside in Crivitz. Tony has lived here since 1976, worked as a residential building contractor and raised his two children here. Mick moved here after a 45 year career in the pharmaceutical industry. Mick spent most of her career in Illinois and raised two sons there. Tony and Mick are now retired but wanted to stay active in their retirement years. They saw the need to bring something new to the Crivitz area and have been working on this restaurant idea for a few years. The vision was to provide a place for families and friends to come and enjoy each other in a more relaxed atmosphere. The Checkerboard is an alternative dining experience with gourmet salads, sandwiches, charcuterie and bruschetta. It features new technology with the "ipourit" self-serve beer tap wall filled with Wisconsin craft beers. Many imported wines can also be poured up here.
